Spanbox is built around a simple idea: your data should stay yours. The forum follows the same instinct. We collect as little as we can, we are clear about what we do with it, and we never sell it.
What we collect
- Account details such as your email address and display name. If you sign up with a password, we store a secured hash of it, never the password itself. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a basic profile and email from them.
- What you post, including questions, answers, comments, votes and your public profile. This content is meant to be seen by the community.
- Verification codes we send to confirm your email, kept only briefly.
- Basic technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, and essential cookies, which help keep you signed in and keep the forum secure.
How we use it
- To create and run your account and show your posts to the community.
- To confirm your email and keep you signed in securely.
- To keep the forum safe, prevent spam and abuse, and enforce our rules.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the forum is used so we can improve it.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you logged in and to protect the forum. We do not run advertising trackers or sell your browsing behaviour. Any non-essential analytics are kept privacy-friendly and aggregate.
Bot protection
To stop bots from mass-creating accounts, we use Cloudflare Turnstile on sign-up. It checks that a request looks human without the intrusive puzzles of older captchas, and it is designed to be privacy-respecting.
Who else processes your data
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the forum work, and only as needed:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the forum and provides bot protection.
- Our email provider, used to send verification codes and account notices.
- Google and Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of the community.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Verification codes are deleted shortly after use. If you delete your account, we remove your personal details, though content you chose to leave public may remain unless you delete it too.
Your rights
You can view and edit your profile, download or delete your content, and close your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your data or ask us to correct or erase it. To make a request, use the Spanbox contact page.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, rate limiting and other safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe and to limit what we collect in the first place.
Children
The forum is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we update this policy, we will change the date at the top and, for meaningful changes, let members know. Questions about your privacy are welcome through the Spanbox contact page.
