ICQ actually outlived almost all of them and only died in 2024, which stunned people. Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger are long dead. Rest in peace to the door-slam sound.

Yahoo Messenger shut down for good in 2018. ICQ hung on way longer than anyone expected but finally closed in 2024. MSN went years ago too. The whole first generation is basically gone, replaced by WhatsApp, Messenger and the rest.
