Does Instagram have its own separate messenger app these days?

Thought I saw a standalone Instagram messaging app at some point. Is that a real thing?

Instagram DMs are built into the main Instagram app, that is where most people chat. Meta did merge Instagram and Messenger chat on the backend for a while so you could message across them. There was a short-lived separate Threads/DM experiment, but for now: DMs live inside the Instagram app itself.

No standalone Instagram Messenger app worth installing. Your DMs are in the main app. The cross-app messaging with Facebook Messenger exists but it is a setting, not a separate download.
