Can you actually recall an email in Outlook after sending it? Sent one to the wrong person.

Outlook's recall only works under specific conditions, so manage your expectations. It works only if all of these are true: you and the recipient are on the same Microsoft 365 / Exchange organization (same company email system), the recipient hasn't opened the message yet, and you're on the desktop Outlook app. Open the email from Sent Items, go to Message > Move > Actions > Recall This Message, and choose delete or replace. If the recipient is external (Gmail, another company), recall does nothing.

The 'same organization' limit is the killer. If you emailed someone outside your company, recall is useless, it only works internally on Exchange. The newer Outlook handles it more reliably within an org now.

Honestly, recall often tips people off rather than helping, since some setups notify the recipient that you tried. If they've already read it, the damage is done, and a quick apology email is the cleaner move.

If this happens a lot, set a Delay Delivery rule so all your mail sits in the outbox for a minute before it sends. That undo window has saved me more than recall ever has.
