How do I force Instagram into dark mode? It keeps ignoring my phone setting.

My whole phone is on dark mode but Instagram is still blinding white every time I open it. Is there an in-app dark mode toggle I'm missing, or does it only follow the system theme?

Instagram follows the system theme rather than having its own toggle. If it's stuck light: on iPhone go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Dark (it obeys the system setting, not the temporary Control Center switch). On Android, Settings > Display > Dark theme. If your system is already dark and IG is still white, update the app, older versions had a bug where it wouldn't pick up the theme until a full restart.
