How do you leave a group chat on iPhone without everyone seeing a message about it?

Stuck in a group text that will not stop buzzing. I want out, but I have heard leaving posts a '[name] left the conversation' notice to everyone, which I would rather avoid. Is there a clean way to leave a group chat on iPhone, and does it depend on whether it is iMessage or has Android people in it?

Two cases. If it is a pure iMessage group (everyone blue) with 3+ other people, open the chat > tap the group icons at the top > Leave this Conversation. Yes, it shows a small 'X left' line, there is no way around that in a true iMessage group. If ANYONE is on Android (green bubbles = an SMS/MMS group), there is no Leave button at all, so your only option is to mute it with Hide Alerts.

If you cannot leave (green group), Hide Alerts is the move. Open the chat, tap the top, toggle Hide Alerts. It stays in your list but goes completely silent, which is 90% of what people actually want.

Small catch: the group needs at least 3 other people for the Leave option to appear. In a group of 3 total, Apple only lets you mute, not leave.

The 'left the conversation' notice is unavoidable in iMessage groups, but honestly nobody reacts to it. Mute for zero trace, leave to get it out of your list.
