Messenger crashes the second I open it on Android, how do I stop it?

Brand new phone, freshly installed, and it closes instantly every time. Reinstalled twice already. Anyone beaten this one?

Clear the cache first (long press the app icon, App info, Storage, Clear cache, NOT clear data or you lose your login). If it still crashes, check for a system webview update in the Play Store, Messenger leans on that and an outdated one causes exactly this.
