How do I change my name on Facebook, and is there a limit on how often I can do it?

I need to update my name on Facebook, either I got married or I want to fix an old typo. Where's the setting, and I've heard you can only change it every so often, is that true?

Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Personal and account information > Name (on mobile, search 'name' in Settings). Type the new first/last name, preview how it'll look, then enter your password to confirm. The catch everyone hits: Facebook locks your name for 60 days after any change, so you can't flip it back and forth. Rules: no symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization or titles like Dr., and it should be the name you actually go by or Facebook may ask for ID. You can add a nickname or maiden name separately under 'Other names' without triggering the 60-day lock.

The 60-day lock is the big one. Once you change it you're stuck with the new name for two months, so triple-check the spelling before you confirm.

If you just want a maiden name or nickname shown, add it under 'Other names' instead of changing your actual name. No 60-day lock and it still appears on your profile.

Facebook rejects names with numbers, symbols or titles. If yours won't save, strip anything that isn't a plain name. Repeated odd changes can get you asked for a photo ID.

Changing your name doesn't change your @username or profile link, that's a separate 'Username' setting. So your URL stays the same unless you edit that too.
