How do you actually delete a Reddit account permanently, and does it wipe your posts?

Reddit deletion is tucked away in Settings. On desktop, go to Settings > Account > scroll to the bottom > Delete Account, enter your username and password, and confirm. The big catch: deleting your account does NOT delete your posts and comments. They stay, just reattributed to [deleted]. If you want those gone, edit or delete them first (a tool like Power Delete Suite automates it) before you nuke the account. Deletion is permanent, and you can't reuse that username.

Yeah, the posts-stay part surprises everyone. Delete the account and every comment still reads exactly the same, just under 'deleted'. Scrub your content first if that matters to you.

On mobile the option is buried too, honestly easier on the desktop site. And once it's done, that username is gone forever, you can't grab it again.

If you just want a clean break without losing the account, you can also log out and stop using it. Full deletion is only worth it if you specifically want the account gone.
