How does the Close Friends list work, and can people tell they're on it (or not)?

Want to start posting some stories to a smaller group. If I add someone to Close Friends do they get told? And more importantly, does someone who's NOT on it have any way to know they were left off?

Close Friends stories get a green ring and badge, so viewers know it's a close-friends story. But nobody is notified when you add or remove them, and people who aren't on the list simply don't see those stories at all, they have no way to know the story even exists. So curate freely, only you can see and edit the list.

The green ring is the only tell, and only the people who ARE on it see it. The ones left off are blissfully unaware. Use responsibly.
