My Instagram DM notifications just stopped showing up. How do I get them back?

I still get post and story notifications fine, but DMs go completely silent, I only see them when I open the app. Already checked that DM notifications are on in the app. What else could be muting them?

Layered settings, check all of them. 1) In-app: Settings > Notifications > Messages, make sure nothing is paused. 2) System: your phone's Settings > Apps > Instagram > Notifications, look for a 'Direct/Messages' channel that might be off. 3) Battery optimization, if IG is being 'optimized' the OS delays its background notifications, set it to unrestricted. 4) Make sure you didn't accidentally mute the specific chat (open thread > tap the name > Mute).
