Can I hide who I follow on Instagram without making my whole account private?

I don't want to go fully private, but I'd rather people couldn't scroll my entire following list. Is hiding the following list a real setting now, or is that only possible by going private?

Honest answer: Instagram doesn't give you a clean 'hide following list' toggle on a public account. The follower and following lists are visible to anyone who can see your profile, and going private is the only built-in way to restrict them. Anything promising to hide it on a public account is not official and usually sketchy.

Fully closing and reopening the app (swipe it away) fixes more than you would think.

Kind of wish they'd add this. WhatsApp lets you lock down almost everything now and Instagram feels behind on the basics.
